Zinnia Pillow

Size: 14” x 20”

Gauge: Each motif = 3” after blocking.

Materials

Yarn:

Lace weight yarn Bernat Handicrafter Size 5 Crochet Thread (100% Acrylic; 371 yards [339 meters]/85 grams): 31220 Fresh Fern, 1 ball

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm)

Notions: 14” x 20” pillow; stitch markers; tapestry needle; blocking materials

Special Stitches

Embroidery chain stitch (see photo).

Bring your needle through the back of fabric to the front. Create a loop by bringing the needle through the front of the fabric to the back next to the first hole. Next, inside the loop, bring the needle through the back of the fabric to the front. Create another loop by bringing the needle through the front of the fabric to the back next to where the needle just came through. Continue making the chains as even as possible. Fasten the last loop with a small stitch.

Pattern Notes

The three motifs are stitched and blocked. Then the motifs are sewed onto an accent pillow and chain stitch stems are embroidered.

Motifs (make 3)

Rnd 1: Make magic circle/adjustable ring, ch 2, work 12 dc in ring, sl st to first dc to join – 12 dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 2, sc in next st (small loop made); rep from * 10 more times around, ch 2, sl st to first sc to join – 12 small loops.
Rnd 3:
Ch 1, sc in small loop, *ch 4, sk to next small loop, sc in next small loop (large loop made); rep from * 10 more times around, ch 4, sl st to first sc to join – 12 large loops.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in each large loop around, sl st to first sc to join.

Fasten off leaving a tail measuring at least 36” / [1 yard]. This tail will be used to attach the motifs to the pillow. Weave in starting tail of each motif.

Finishing

Block motifs to 3” across. Lay the motifs on the accent pillow and with the end tail, sew the motifs to the pillow by sewing each end point.

Cont to stitch the stems using the embroidery chain stitch.

Weave in all loose ends. Enjoy! yarn ball
